The basic appearance of the packaging aligns with Terramaster's emphasis on affordability, offering significant cost benefits when compared to rivals. For this nas the $600 pricetag is all about the hardware though.
The device comes with a neatly organized accessory kit in a separate box, containing essentials such as a network cable, power supply unit, screws for securing 2.5" drives, labelling stickers for drives, a screwdriver, and information on the warranty. The F4-424 has a 2-year warranty, which is less than the 3-year warranty often provided by competitors like Synology and ASUSTOR.
In a design shift towards a more understated black motif, similar to that of Synology, the F4-424 Pro's facade is simple with four drive slots enhancing its sleek look. However, the trays do not lock and lack clear labels, areas that could see improvement. Installing 3.5-inch drives is straightforward without the need for tools, but securing 2.5-inch drives requires screws. We also find the informational LEDs to be a bit small. While good to have it non-intrusive, it also is a bit harder to read out status information that way.
The NAS is equipped with dual 2.5GbE LAN ports, an HDMI port, and a 120mm cooling fan, yet it lacks USB ports on the front. The rear hosts USB-C and USB-A ports, both supporting USB 3.2 Gen 2, but the HDMI port's functionality is limited, mainly displaying Linux scripts during startup without a graphical interface.
